For 10 years, HydroTech Mining has established itself as a key partner in mining water management, thanks to its field expertise and customized solutions.
Based in Val-d’Or, HydroTech Mining has established itself as a leading authority in a highly specialized niche: water management for the mining sector. In an industry where downtime is incredibly costly, water control is a critical issue for both open-pit and underground operations. “Without effective water management, a mine’s activities can quite simply come to a halt,” explains Nicolas Poirier, Director of Business Development and Marketing at HydroTech Mining. Indeed, water accumulation in a pit or gallery can compromise safety, slow down work, and lead to significant financial losses. Site dewatering is, therefore, an absolute necessity.
Founded in Val-d’Or by Cheyne Poirier and Paul Cormier—who together bring over 25 years of industry experience—the company truly understands the reality on the ground. Today, HydroTech Mining employs approximately 45 dedicated collaborators and primarily works with gold and iron mines. While Abitibi remains a natural market for the company, it is also active in Ontario, Surrey, and Winnipeg, and has delivered projects worldwide, including in Mexico, the United States, and Morocco.
HydroTech Mining’s offering is built on two pillars: products and services. The company provides a range of robust submersible pumps specifically designed for demanding mining environments, notably the Maverick and Riptide series. The company maintains an extensive inventory, allowing it to react quickly to the needs of mining sites. This responsiveness is particularly crucial in the spring, when snowmelt accelerates water accumulation.
“During this period, we closely monitor weather conditions, and rentals become very high in demand. That said, we also handle pump sales at all times, even in emergencies. Our business model and stock levels allow us to intervene without delay so that clients can continue their operations,” adds Nicolas Poirier.

Expertise and innovation
Beyond equipment, HydroTech Mining stands out for its engineering expertise. The team develops customized solutions tailored to each specific site.
“Our engineers go into the field to conduct audits, analyze constraints, and develop bespoke pumping systems, such as our Tsunami and Hurricane models, which are part of our product line,” says Mr. Poirier.
Naturally, these solutions represent a significant investment for mining companies, but the long-term benefits are substantial: more robust systems, better performance, reduced equipment failure, and minimized downtime. In addition to being innovative, these systems are mobile—a feature highly valued by clients—and personalized to their needs. Often, they also represent a more cost-effective solution than those offered by the competition.
The company is also working on a new solution for water clarification. “The goal is to separate sludge from liquids to pump clearer water, which helps reduce equipment wear and improves overall system efficiency. Our team is actively developing a prototype,” notes the Business Development Director.

A Human Approach Behind Its Reputation
Since 2016, the company has seen steady growth. As it celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2026, its goal is to consolidate and expand its operations across Canada over the coming years. Management continues to emphasize the importance of maintaining a human and proactive approach. Proximity to clients, rapid response times, and personalized solutions are core to their positioning.
“We are on the ground. We understand the practical challenges mines face, and we support our clients every step of the way,” highlights Mr. Poirier.
In a sector where operational performance is decisive, HydroTech Mining has established itself as a premier specialized partner, capable of intervening quickly and providing solutions adapted to an exacting and ever-changing mining reality.
